Kashon Harrison of New Mexico and Meikael Beaudoin-Rousseau of California battled at Foot Locker West for their first national championship berths.
Defending Foot Locker champion Claudia Lane demolished the field at Foot Locker West with a new course record of 16:59. She is the first girl to break 17 minutes on the Mt. SAC 5K course; Jordan Hasay ran 17:17 in 2007. Lane has now erased many of California’s toughest high school girls course records, including a 16:30.30 run at Woodward Park and a shocking 15:59 at the Mt. SAC Invitaitonal’s 2.93 mile course; both records were previously held by Sarah Baxter, who ran 16:40 at Woodward Park and 16:00 at the Mt. SAC Invitational.
Defending Foot Locker champion Claudia Lane became the first girl to break 17 minutes at Mt. SAC’s 5K course for the Foot Locker West Regional. She ran 16:59. Jordan Hasay previously ran 17:17 in 2007.
Kashon Harrison of New Mexico made Foot Locker Nationals for the first time after placing 13th at the West Regional in 2016.

New York sophomore Katelyn Tuohy ran 16:45 to win Nike Cross Nationals by 40 seconds and break Katie Rainsberger’s course record by 11 seconds. She and California’s Claudia Lane have broken records all season on opposite coasts of the country, but won’t race each other this year as Lane will compete at Foot Locker. “Maybe next year,” Tuohy said.
Grace Ping isn’t the only runner in the family. After competing in the open race for the past two years, seventh-grader Lauren earned All-American honors in the championship race with an 11th place finish.
