Ipswich student Montanna McAvoy.
IPSWICH and District Athletic Club competitor Montanna McAvoy has continued her terrific cross country form.
The Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School student won a silver medal in under-18 4km event at the Australian championships in Canberra on Saturday.
McAvoy covered the Stromio Forest course in 14 minutes, four seconds, a new personal best.
She also won a gold medal in the team event, as one of six runners representing Queensland.
Her latest success followed an impressive bronze medal-winning performance representing IGGS in her under-16 event at the state school cross country titles in Maryborough.
Another spirited club runner Kelly McNamara toiled hard to finish 60th at the national cross country titles.
The St Mary’s College student suffered severe cramping having played hockey the night before she flew to Canberra.
Her time was 15 minutes, 58 seconds.
“It was great experience that will benefit her future endeavours,” club president Vic Pascoe said.
Ipswich club athletes are also preparing for the annual winter carnival on Sunday at Bill Paterson Oval.
